The Role
Our engineers respond to reactive and planned maintenance calls. They are required to diagnose faults and complete repairs on a variety of foodservice equipment on site at our customer premises. Electrical and mechanical experience is required for this role and experience in bakery/catering equipment would be preferable. We have also found that engineers with experience in the white goods industry tend to have transferable skills and adapt well to role. Our service team deal with approximately 250 calls per week, which are electronically transmitted to the engineer’s handheld PDA devices. All vans are fitted with vehicle tracking software so we can easily locate the position of the closest engineer to the job.
Location
We employ a team of approximately 35 Engineers split into 3 regions, covering from Nottingham down to Kent across to Poole. The regions covered by each engineer vary depending on the location of our customers. The nature of the work requires engineers to operate from their home address and involves visiting customers at their premises. Twice a year engineers attend the Basingstoke office where their van stock is checked and updated i.e. obsolete parts are removed. Each region has a coordinator who allocates the work to the Engineers. The Field Technical Managers (FTM’s) resolve the technical queries, trouble shoot problem jobs and support all the engineers. They also handle personnel issues, attend group meetings and are on hand to provide technical assistance.
Salary
Engineers earn on average £30k (depending on experience, overtime work available).

Training
Engineer training is a combination of manufacturer courses and one to one job shadowing. New Engineers are trained for one month along side experienced engineers, by then they will be able to complete a variety of the reactive jobs. After the first month, engineers then have one day a week with one of the FTM’s, or an experienced engineer. This helps familiarise them with the equipment and focuses on any problem areas. It takes about a year for engineers to become familiar with all of the equipment, and even longer for them to become fully competent. It all depends on how quickly they pick up the role.
Engineers are supplied with:
° Company Vehicle (and fuel card)
° Van stock (parts that are most commonly used in the job)
° Manuals (including wiring diagrams)
° Uniform
° Specialist tools (they are expected to provide their own basic tool set which is insured by the company)

Engineers are also required to be available to work on one in four weekends, and to cover evening call-outs one week out of every four. Engineers are paid all travel time. In addition to these hours, Engineers are required to work any reasonable additional hours necessary to fulfil the requirements of the position; as this is a service industry the job requires a certain amount of flexibility in the working hours.
